House of Cards – Trumps win

My 18 yr old daughter recently gave me a run down on how she voted in the last Australian federal election (her first) which was different to how I voted and she knew it. She had a mix of excitement, anger, frustration and determination – everything necessary for voting.

Tonight my 14 yr old daughter decided to research Donald Trump’s policies, critically analysing the policy points one by one, adding at one point, “build a wall? – geez this guy must have a lot of money”.

Asked to characterise him, she responded, “he has views that some would agree with, but he is not a leader – he is a fraud and a person that should not be given power to.” She finished with this, “what is the term ‘alien’ in regard to immigrants?”. When I explained, she was horrified, “that is not a way to talk about people.”

As the heading suggests, I think Trump will win the US election. Hillary Clinton is in trouble and Brexit (UK), Hanson, and Hinch (AU) shows that society wants to mix up establishment politics, and who can blame them (you). Like climate change, I guess our kids will sort out what we couldn’t, but they’ll need to go all in…..
