Fire and Rescue New South Wales Commissioner Greg Mullins has welcomed the end to industrial action by firefighters, which has cost the government thousands of dollars.

The Fire Brigade Employees Union put a ban on firefighters relieving crews at other stations on Thursday morning.

But FBEU state secretary Jim Casey says the ban was lifted last night after the parties were able to make some kind of agreement.

Mr Mullins says some fire stations were temporarily taken off line due to reduced crews, but all stations are now operating as normal.
