From the Mercury:

“Police are investigating a fire that tore through a home in Berkeley overnight.
Emergency services were called to the Winnima Way home about 11.30pm after reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews found the rear of the three bedroom brick and tile house well alight when they arrived and spent about two hours on scene extinguishing the blaze.

The home was searched twice by firefighters but no one was home at the time of the fire.

Two rooms were severely damaged by the fire and the house also suffered water and smoke damage.

Police Detectives are gathering witness statements today and anyone with information is urged to contact Lake Illawarra police on 4232 5599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

My crew (Dapto) did the search and rescue with the crew from Unanderra. Both crews did the search with the roof coming in on them, under difficult conditions.
