Holden’s manufacturing plant at Elizabeth.

HOLDEN’S production line restructure has left up to 12,000 component workers anxious about their jobs and sent a wave of uncertainty through Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

Car making to continue under Labor govt:Industry Minister Kim Carr said the automotive industry had gone through big changes and more will come.

GM Holden chairman Mike Devereux yesterday conceded the move would affect workers both at the Elizabeth plant and in the factories that produce parts for Holden.
A vehicle industries unions meeting on Monday will determine a response to the plan, with hints there could be industrial action.

Automotive sector workers, Holden staff, some component makers and the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union say they were blindsided by yesterday’s announcement that casts doubt over the future security of the industry.
