The Shooters Party confirmed yesterday it would support Premier Barry O’Farrell’s bill to ban MPs from being councillors, leaving its fate to the two Christian Democrat MPs in the upper house.

A government source said talks with the Christian Democrats would not begin until Mr Nile is out of hospital, where he is recovering from illness.

The source said the government was waiting for Mr Nile as it was unsure if the other CDP MP, Paul Green, would support the bill. Mr Green is Mayor of Shoalhaven City Council. The law would stop him running for council again.

Shooters MP Robert Borsak, who was lobbied by Ms Moore to vote against the bill, said yesterday he would support the proposed law.

Meanwhile, Ms Moore’s deputy mayor Marcelle Hoff resigned this week due to illness. Next Friday will be her last day as a councillor. Among the issues Ms Hoff brought to the table was replacing the words “European arrival” with “invasion” late last year.
