Emergency service crews rescued a Dapto boy from a stormwater drain overnight after he became trapped while trying to retrieve a lost ball.

The boy was wedged head first down the drain and a member of Dapto Fire and Rescue placed himself down the drain to calm the boy while paramedics and firefighters worked for 25 minutes to free him.

They had to use specialist tools to bend the metal in the drain that was trapping the boy’s head, to remove him.

He was released unharmed and checked over by paramedics.
