If you were one of the hundreds of lucky punters caught up in the traffic gridlock this morning on Victoria Rd, you know who to thank, “Billionaire Barry”. If you were one of the unlucky eight people who had to seek medical attention, three hospitalised, from smoke inhalation this morning at Marrickville, you know who to blame, “Billionaire Barry”.

Last night’s fire in Marrickvilleremained out of control until this morning, leaving three in hospital, and hundreds hot under the collar stuck in a traffic gridlock during peak hour on what is arguably Sydney’s busiest road. Had more fire-fighters and fire equipment been available who knows what difference would have been? But there certainly would have been a substantial one.

It is unfortunate then that the nearby Mascot station was deserted and closed.
