Defamation for #2GB clown Ray Hadley | #Ausmedia thetelegraph.com.au

THE state’s chief law officer Greg Smith is threatening to sue broadcaster Ray Hadley for defamation over comments the 2GB announcer made last month which Mr Smith says falsely suggested he treated accused paedophiles favourably.

Mr Smith’s office would not comment on whether taxpayers are footing the bill for his legal action. His lawyer has sent Hadley a letter followed by a “concerns notice”, asking the broadcaster to apologise.

The proposed action relates to a broadcast in April and another on May 2 in which Hadley criticised Mr Smith over comments he allegedly made regarding a child sex case involving a friend of Mr Smith, Father Finian Egan.

The Daily Telegraph revealed on the day of the broadcast that charity worker Father Chris Riley had told Egan’s alleged female victim that Mr Smith had told him she was “trying to get $1 million” from the church. Mr Smith denied making the comment.
